The creators of HDTV, which stands for high definition TV, was originally inspired by the comfort that large screen cinema uniquely offered. They have noticed that people sitting on the first few rows in movie theatres to enjoy the most vivid experiences than sitting behind them, no matter what their necks have a tendency to headaches later.

The beginning of the Era HDTV

It was Sony and NHK, which are more or less credited as pioneers for the generation of HDTV. The product, however, called NHK Hi-vision, was intended to film and not yet adapted to smaller television set. Thanks to this innovation, the film became faster to produce and more special effects became possible for film makers to use even with a limited budget.

The main goal of producers aspiring HDTV is to create a TV series that allow visitors to enjoy a wider screen rather than increase the definition or the vibrance per unit area.

The main problem of TV producers when they considered producing HDTV set was more or less should be doing HDTV standards compatible with those of colour television sets, which constitutes the majority of TV sets in use at that time. Other problems related to the production of HDTV are bandwidth throttling, distribution, interlacing or compression.

Regarding the problems of distribution, the FCC ruled in 1987 for standard HDTV be compatible with the existing standard NTSC and limited to VHF and UHF channels. Three years after that, however, the FCC ruled for HDTV use simultaneous broadcasts and also expressed a preference for full HDTV standard for image quality reduced by EDTV.

In 1993, as the FCC was still able to make a choice between the four companies that submitted proposals for HDTV, it finally decided to create what today is known as a grand alliance between these companies: AT & T, GI, MITPhilips and Sanroff, Thomson and Zenith. The rest of the year was spent in establishing characteristics and formulating standards for the proposed system. In 1994, HDTV was successfully built and programmed for testing for next year.
